Untamed Spirit

There is a fire that burns brightly within. That is the flame of an untamed spirit. Sometimes, this is extinguished over time, it starts to flicker and ebb away, eventually turning to embers. When this finally dies, we become stale and dead before our time. We shuffle through life not really living. We no longer savour the world and its magnificence, and everything feels grey, listless and dull. We become tame. For anyone who experiences this, it is a terrible fate. We stop shining from within and cannot pass on our light to others. We take instead of give. We rob their happiness. We bring everyone else around us down. Rebel against this pernicious domestication.

In becoming aware, we can take steps to remedy this. There is no need to inflict suffering on ourselves and others as much anymore. We realise that we are in pain. The tonic to our malady is to return to the things that arouse our passions. We must fall in love with life again. We cannot stay in the persistent gloom, this is a slow demise. We must emerge with wild abandon.

As we shake off the regrets of the past and the worries of the future, we feel more alive than ever before. We fan the embers in our heart with bold ecstasy. Striking out with furious energy, our inner flame ignites. We relish the wind blowing through our hair and revel at the warmth of the sun on our face. The colour returns to our world and we see its brightness and beauty.

We have moments of sheer wonder as the landscape becomes an effervescent glow. We can ramble the forest, whispering to trees as we walk. We can sing to the sea and feel the soft sand between our toes. We can climb up the hill and stand awestruck at the apex, viewing majestic vistas below. We start to appreciate wildness again.

This primal urge should not be rejected. Our vital energy should not be suppressed. Let it rise through your body. Get out there and move. Scream at the top of your lungs, “I am alive!”.
