The Throat Chakra is all about expression and communication. It’s not just about transmitting messages, it’s also about receiving them too. Have you ever choked-up when having to deal with a stressful situation? The words, no matter what you do, just won’t come out. That’s your Throat Chakra playing silly buggers. The proper functioning of this centre allows us to speak with confidence and conviction and to listen effectively. Learning and teaching are therefore governed by this area too.
Honesty and the Throat Chakra go hand-in-hand. How well do you express yourself truthfully? Can you convey your needs in a clear way? Are you able to speak freely without fear of judgement or ridicule? Do you isolate yourself to avoid social situations where communication is necessary? Are you living your dreams with a sense of purpose and determination? Can you get your ideas out there into the world? Living your Truth is really where it’s at with the Throat Chakra, it’s all about being the authentic version of you.
Being told to, “sit still, shut up and be quiet”, too many times is a surefire way to close up this area. If you believe that’s what you should do, then you won’t be able to step out into the world and get your message across. Most of us have been programmed this way from an early age and so, there’s a lot of people not living the true expression of their full potential. Sometimes this manifests as starting something but never getting to the finish line. Perhaps your dreams have been dashed too often and you’ve found it easier to stay small? Maybe too many people have been listening to what you’ve been saying and you’ve forgotten how to tell the truth? A career in politics, religion or media awaits.
An overactive Throat Chakra can lead to talking too much, inability to listen, defensiveness, gossiping, lying, arrogance, pushing opinions on people and self-righteousness; while under-activity can lead to communication problems, shyness, inconsistency, weakness of voice, difficulties with expressing feelings, poor rhythm and timing. A person with a balanced Throat Chakra shows traits of honesty, openness, confidence, conscious listening, positive self-expression, contentment and creativity.
Eating blueberries, blackberries, elderberries, prunes, black currants, plums, purple grapes, figs, seaweed, aubergines and drinking prune, elderberry and grape juices or blackberry smoothies, wearing blue clothing and scents of frankincense, geranium, tea tree, cypress, peppermint, eucalyptus, clove, lavender, rosemary and sage can help to balance the Throat Chakra.
Chanting the vowel sound “EYE”, so that you feel the vibration in your throat region will help to stabilise this Chakra.
